About Reel Theory

Reel Theory explains how slot machines actually work — RTP, volatility and features — checked against published game rules rather than tested in-house.

Reel Theory is a small editorial project that writes about how online slot machines work: return-to-player figures, volatility, bonus features and jackpot mechanics. The aim is plain explanations of the math behind a game, not tips for beating it.

What this site does

Every guide starts from a specific question a player might type into a search bar — “how do I check a slot’s RTP,” “what does loose actually mean” — and answers it using information a studio or regulator has already published: paytables, help screens, rule sheets and official game information documents. Where a figure cannot be confirmed against a published source, the guide says so instead of guessing.

What this site does not do

Reel Theory does not run its own spin tests, does not simulate reel strips, and does not claim to have verified a game’s math independently of the publisher. Nothing here is a system for winning, and no guide promises an outcome: slot math is built around a house edge, and no amount of reading changes that. For background on how topics are chosen and sources are checked, see the editorial policy.

Who writes it

Reel Theory is produced by a small editorial desk rather than a single named reviewer. The desk’s job is to read a game’s published rules and regulatory filings carefully enough to explain them correctly, and to correct anything a reader flags as wrong. If you’ve found an error, the contact page explains the current state of how to reach us.
